Balancing the cart and the heart: online shopping success from targeted ads

I am the queen of targeted ads, and I've joyfully embraced the digital age's data-driven shopping experiences. While I am very selective about what I actually buy, I have had success over the past few months. I wanted to share how I have balanced the cart and the heart with some solid targeted ad purchases.

Speaking of shopping carts, how many of you have been lured by a great sale email, left your cart full of items, then become distracted or had to step away to think it over? My colleagues at marketing.com are putting on a free webinar today (8/15/23) on cart abandonment, that crazy interesting part of the customer journey that's a big deal for businesses, no matter their size.

Gigi Pip has targeted me for over a year.
I am pleased to say this was a great purchase, beautifully boxed and shipped. And even though my boys called it a “wok” when I wore it for the first time, the funny thing is, they ALL took turns wearing said wok that day at the pool. I look forward to wearing it a lot more on an upcoming trip.

Hidden gems: The family of products from TOBIQ Travel

I've become the proud owner of a trio of fantastic TOBIQ products – all thanks to an amazing customer experience delivered straight from the heart of the owner and founder.

So, there I was, totally giving in to a targeted ad last May, right before our family trip to Europe. The 60L duffle (a.k.a. the snack attack backpack – yeah, it's got a name) rolled in just about three days before we left. But one of the backpack straps was nowhere to be found! I was very disappointed so I sent off an email to their customer service and received a lightning-fast response. They overnighted the missing straps, I took to social media to share my awesome experience, and we were on our way!

Most recently I have lots of love for the TOBIQ Toiletry bag in durable recycled polyester. According to their website, “it’s the love child of an accordion file folder and a fashion icon,” and I would buy it as a gift for every person who travels, even a little bit. They have some new colors coming out soon, too. I have sampled many travel bags over the years, and this one takes the cake. Follow their Instagram page - it’s a fun one!

What draws me back to this brand is that the company's owner is all about innovation and putting herself out there. Their brand identity is authentic and as real as it gets. Seeing their success and growth warms my heart and makes me want to cheer them on even more! 🎉

Right now, to celebrate their official patent, they are offering 23% off everything for just 20 hours with code PATENTED

The reviews on The DB Method sealed the deal

The pull came from the reviews and social proof – that's what got me to bite on a DB Method targeted ad. I'll admit, I had my reservations before sealing the deal, and I really wasn’t looking to add something like this, but here's the kicker: it's now on my list of top favorites. Yep, I really like this thing. It's won me over, no question, and it keeps reeling me back for the challenge.

It's like this mastermind at targeting all those sweet spots that need attention, and it’s fun! I can totally crank up a cheesy jam from my playlist, like something from a classic Rocky soundtrack or some Salt-N-Pepa, and power through the whole darn song. It's a jam session and workout all rolled into one!

Quick update: I have reached 100% on Lanebreak on the Peloton! For more info on that backstory, you can read here.

Targeted online = shop local

kitsch flexi rods

For someone like me, situated right at the heart of "everywhere" but in the middle of nowhere, and an appreciation for easy omnichannel shopping—particularly local—it's an ideal situation. I was recently on the radar of a certain brand whose products, branding, and marketing clicked with me.

Soon after, I came across an Instagram story from Studio H showcasing these very products. I couldn't resist and picked up a couple of items: the Flexi-Rods heatless curlers and the Solid Shave Butter.

A few days after, Gina, a friend of mine who owns Merle Norman, shared an unboxing video of the same products! Now, I've got two local spots to snag these sustainable items.

You’d be surprised at how many local boutiques carry some of the trendy and mainstream items. Always use a store locator to look around you and support those small businesses!

Blog song of the day

As a super music enthusiast with a wide range of tastes, I want to end each post with a song of the day.

I'm thoroughly impressed with this debut album release. Hailing from Coldwater, Ohio, Troy Otten, who is the son of Coldwater's football coach Chip Otten, played a role in writing some of the tracks and showcasing his guitar skills. The overall vibe is fantastic. Kudos to Grumpy Bug!
